<FR> Pianotissage est une installation sonore qui augmente un jeu sur la table d’harmonie d'un piano à queue. Inspiré d'un métier à tisser, un mobilier suspendu laisse descendre un enchevêtrement de fils se faufilant entre les cordes du piano, ceux-ci pouvant s'embobiner et se désembobiner de façon motorisée ou manuelle. Comme l'action d'archets démesurément longs, le résultat sonore qui se produit par frottements est massif, pointilliste. Les fils colorés se détachent, délicats et vibrants, dans l'espace haut et vide qui surplombe le piano. Tels les traits de plusieurs crayons fluorescents, ils arrachent les sons au ventre de l'instrument tout en se livrant dans leur tension fragile, à une cinétique mécanique. D'autre part, s'inscrivant dans le courant du piano préparé, des objets choisis sont disposés/activés sur une sélection de cordes pour colorer autrement la sonorité.
L'oeuvre propose aussi une performance d'une trentaine de minutes où l'on explore comment le comportement de l'objet programmable peut entrer en interaction avec le jeu d'une sensibilité humaine. Philippe Lauzier et Belinda Campbell se prêtent à cette exploration pour offrir, dans une composition de Philippe, une expérience vivante à l'intérieur de l'installation sonore.
Pianotissage a été créé en résidence au Centre Avatar à Québec en 2018, ainsi qu'avec l'aide du Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec et du Conseil des arts du Canada. Elle a été diffusée en première dans le cadre des expositions du Mois Multi du 16 février au 3 mars 2019, où ont été présentées deux itérations de la performances.
<EN> Pianotissage is a sound installation that develops a play on the soundboard of a grand piano. Inspired by a loom, suspended furniture lets a tangle of threads down, sneaking between the strings of the piano, weaving in and out by motor or by hand. Like the action of excessively long bows, the sound result that occurs by friction is massive, pointillist. The colored threads stand out, delicate and vibrant, in the high and empty space that overhangs the piano. As the lines of several fluorescent pencils, they tear the sounds out of the instrument's belly, while indulging in their fragile tension, mechanical kinetics. On the other hand, as part of the prepared piano current, chosen objects are arranged/manipuled on a selection of strings to otherwise color the sound.
The work also offers a performance of about thirty minutes in which the behavior of the programmable object and its interaction with human sensitivity is explored. Philippe Lauzier and Belinda Campbell lend themselves to this exploration, in order to offer, through a composition path by Philippe, a lively experience within the sound installation.
Pianotissage was created during a residency at Centre Avatar, in Quebec City in 2018, with the help of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Canada Council for the Arts. It premiered as part of the Mois Multi exhibitions from February 16th to March 3rd 2019, during which the performance was presented twice.
